ANESTHESIOLOGY ROTATION OBJECTIVES

 

  1. To introduce the resident to a modern hospital anesthesia service and its relation to the surgical discipline and to learn operating room procedures and protocol.

 

  1. To obtain knowledge of:

ü      Cardio-pulmonary physiology on a clinical level.

ü      The pharmacology of various adjunctive drugs and their use with the different types of anesthetic agents.

 

  1. To become knowledgeable of:

ü      Evaluating patients at anesthetic risks

ü      Indication and contra-indication for various anesthetic techniques and agents.

ü      The selection of pre-anesthetic medications.

 

  1. To gain practical experience in:

ü      The principles, anatomy and techniques of intubation and airway maintenance.

ü      The technical aspect of intravenous administration of fluids and medication.

ü      The pre, during and post anesthesia management of surgical fluids and medication.

ü      The management of emergencies and complications during operative procedures.
