Our program participates in the National Matching Service for resident selection. Applicants are required to provide a Match number. Click here for a link to National Matching Service.
Non- Discriminatory Policy:
(Standard 4-2)
Criteria for the selection are as follows:
1. Graduate of an approved American or Canadian dental school. Graduates of other schools may be given consideration on an individual basis. Currently the program does not accept graduates of international dental schools.
2. Appropriate academic performance demonstrated in dental transcripts of individual courses.
3. Board Scores
4. Class Rank
5. Grade Point Average
6. Demonstrated understanding and facility in using the English language - written and verbal
7. Letters of recommendation giving reasonable expectation of clinical skills to take advantage of the opportunities provided in the residency program.
8. Recommendations supporting clinical and professional behavior necessary to work in and complete a residency program.
9. Demonstrating during the interview process, those qualities, personal traits and professional skills that will assist in the successful completion of the residency program.
10 Understanding of and ability to function in the complex and sophisticated medical care system to which this institution belongs (this includes interpersonal skills, organized skills and some understanding of the US medical care system).
The General Practice Residency Program will not discriminate with regard to sex, race, age, religion, color, national origin, veteran status, or disability that would not prohibit the individual from functionally performing all duties of the resident.
Special Consideration:
An individual requesting special consideration for an applicant, who does not meet the minimum standards outlined above, may provide a letter of recommendation, which should indicate what makes this candidate unique, special or exceptional. This letter of recommendation should provide specific descriptions of the writer’s personal knowledge of the candidate’s professional skills. It is important for the recommending dentist to know that the General Practice Residency Program may grant an interview, but it does not ensure selection to the program.
Demonstration of interpersonal skills during the interview process which will provide a strong base for working as part of the dental team in which residents function during their training as well as medical knowledge and clinical thinking skills appropriate to a dental resident is expected.
