EMERGENCY SERVICES ROTATION OBJECTIVES

             

  1. To increase the resident’s knowledge of the role of the emergency service in the hospital and it’s relationship to the dental service.

 

  1. To allow the residents to gain the ability to quickly evaluate the medical status of a patient in an emergency situation and to plan and implement an organized approach to lifesaving treatment.

 

  1. To give the resident practical experience in:

ü      Establishing and maintaining a patient airway.

ü      Cardio-pulmonary resuscitation.

ü      Controlling hemorrhage.

ü      Applying dressings and cleansing of traumatic wounds.

ü      Techniques of closure of lacerations and wounds.

 

  1. To permit the dental resident to acquire the knowledge of the proper selection and administration of emergency drugs.

 

  1. To let the resident gain experience in seeking consultations with the various medical disciplines to provide proper treatment for the emergency patient.

 

  1. To provide the resident with an opportunity to function in a highly stressful situation.
