EMERGENCY SERVICES ROTATION OBJECTIVES
- To
increase the resident’s knowledge of the role of the emergency service in
the hospital and it’s relationship to the dental service.
- To
allow the residents to gain the ability to quickly evaluate the medical
status of a patient in an emergency situation and to plan and implement an
organized approach to lifesaving treatment.
- To
give the resident practical experience in:
ü
Establishing and maintaining a patient airway.
ü
Cardio-pulmonary resuscitation.
ü
Controlling hemorrhage.
ü
Applying dressings and cleansing of traumatic wounds.
ü
Techniques of closure of lacerations and wounds.
- To
permit the dental resident to acquire the knowledge of the proper
selection and administration of emergency drugs.
- To
let the resident gain experience in seeking consultations with the various
medical disciplines to provide proper treatment for the emergency patient.
- To
provide the resident with an opportunity to function in a highly stressful
situation.
